The duties and responsibilities are those of a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor assigned to plan and supervise the work of a large group of professional and paraprofessional nurses and support staff in a specialized and/or general program. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Health Center Administrator and works in conjunction with the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.
Is knowledgeable in DOH-Broward policies, procedures and processes requirements related to all the Family Planning and Immunizations nursing functions.
Ensures the registered nurses follow the nursing process by providing in-depth health teaching, guidance and counseling.
Ensures the Licensed Practitioner Nurses (LPN) independently assess and administer age appropriate childhood vaccines, enters historical and administered immunizations into the State of Florida electronic immunization registry and provides education and dissemination of information promoting immunizations.
Ensures the Medical Assistant, Health Support Technician and Laboratory Technician assists the professional staff in the care and treatment by taking vital signs, weighing & measuring clients, draws blood and collect viable and appropriate specimens from clients when needed.
Responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.
Plans workloads, work flows, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Evaluates direct reports performance through establishing performance indicators and conducting periodic performance reviews. Meets with employees to ensure the established criteria is met. Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job. Conducts QA and QI in concert with the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.
Ensures for self, and staff supervised, that email communications are maintained daily and the accurate completion and timely submission of all administrative requirements including EAR’s, timesheets and mandatory trainings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of nursing, public health principles, practices, and/or techniques.
Knowledge of Immunizations and how to administer them.
Knowledge of family planning services and contraceptive methods.
Skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in providing nursing care.
Skill in computer use.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, communities, and organizations.
Ability to educate staff, clients, organizations, and communities on importance of immunizations and health.
Ability to prioritize, organizes, and schedule work assignments to meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to utilize a computer for data entry and health record documentation.
Ability to maintain records and reports according to program standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThis occupation requires licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27. Valid FL driver's license free of major infractions and access to a reliable automobile to be utilized for work purposes. Able to work a minimum of two evening shifts per week(11:00 AM-8:00PM).
Bachelor of Nursing degree or higher in from an accredited college or university, with 5 years of experience working in the field as a Registered Nurse.
At least one year experience working in a Women’s Health or Family Planning Clinic.
At least one year experience working in Pediatrics or an Immunization Clinic.
At least one year experience working as a Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
