Job Description

OBJECTIVE:

The Director of Email/CRM is placed into this position by the SVP, Managing Director and Chief Experience Officer. The Director of Email/CRM is responsible for assisting in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the strategy and overall execution of high performing email campaigns that drive results across both online & offline channels. The job requires that close attention be paid to how the entire digital channel works to bring to life brand positioning and campaign communications in the most innovative manner.

Areas of responsibility include defining email program & creative strategies, driving the email calendar and deployment cadence as well as assessing performance against set program KPI’s to support a variety of needs across clients. Additionally, the successfully candidate will play an active role in the hands-on deployment and optimization of email in addition to working alongside Leadership to refine and scale processes for operationalizing email services at large inclusive of creative/content development, coding, quality assurance, delivery monitoring, automation, personalization, list management & hygiene.

This position is both agency and client-facing and requires strong presentation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a passion for constant learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop digital marketing strategies and tactics relevant to client business goals

  • Champion development of email capabilities and marketing programs which will drive aggressive sales goals and optimization of both online and offline Key Performance Indicators

  • Determine email channels to be leveraged and ideate tactics that align with digital strategy and client goals

  • Analyze data and assess performance of email campaigns through a variety of lenses. Work with the analytics team to evaluate and report insights gained and effectiveness of channel against client goals inclusive of volume, delivery and engagement metrics on weekly/monthly/quarterly basis.

  • Act as expert and key contact for all vendors, including ESP’s and Technology partners involved in email execution

  • Guide creative targeted to specific customer segments

  • Manage/advise on the import and export of data between segments

  • Ensure the seamless execution and deployment of email campaigns across email clients and mobile/desktop devices

  • Define data segmentation strategy and rules for trigger-based/automated workflows

  • Responsible for defining and optimizing each stage of the Lifecycle for heavy, medium and light users subscribed to a list.

  • Approve test emails prior to blast and follow up on any technical issues.

  • Manage, publish and maintain email calendars including dates for creative briefs, list pulls, creative approval, scheduled deployment dates

  • Monitor trends in digital for improvements that can be made to the business

  • Participate/advise/collaborate on email creative, UX & HTML development

  • Write inspiring creative briefs and brief in-house teams to develop the content/experience needed to bring the email channel to life inclusive of best practices needed for production.

  • Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a noted ability to communicate complex digital concepts to a non-technical audience

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues from a range of disciplines including Strategy, Creative, Account Management, Media and Technology

  • Big-picture thinking plus relentless attention to detail and self-starting mentality

  • Demonstrated success working in fast-paced, highly collaborative team environments.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years experience in email marketing and/or database marketing

  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high stress environment and ensures follow-through on every matter with the ability to move projects to completion

  • Knowledge of advertising, other integrated digital marketing disciplines including but not limited to SEO, SEM, Direct Response, Programmatic Display, Social Media etc.​

  • Ability to employ analytical approaches to solve digital marketing problems

  • Passion for and knowledge of current and emerging technologies

  • Background in most online technologies (HTML, Java, Flash, JQuery, etc.)

  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail, written, and oral communication skills

  • Creative, diplomatic, cool under pressure and strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience with Adobe Omniture Site Catalyst, Google Analytics, DoubleClick

  • Strong strategic thinking ability
